Hey Everyone, this request is being solved with an update we pushed live to remove the concept of unconfirmed orders.
Right now you have to opt into the update while it's still new which you can learn how to do here –> https://www.loom.com/share/8abf066cef844ab7adc5eff7ca85862d?sid=3bebd5c3-c19f-4ecb-81b1-5dcb5f4897c0

I have noticed if I hide an item because I no longer have in stock and will not for a long time(seasonal item) and its in there unconfirmed order- and they go back and place the order it allows them to order that item then I have to explain why I had to take it off

Jaclyn Lee Rogers: Hey! In the meantime, if you make sure to zero-out your inventory, that will prevent this particular issue.

Hey All! Thanks for the feature suggestion as always.
Curious if someone could explain the desired reason(s) to delete an unconfirmed order? These are just carts that are abandoned which every eCommerce site should expect a lot of.
Hoping we can peel back the onion a bit on this one :)
Thanks in advanced!

Brooks Hitzfield: Sometimes, a customer will literally have 5 or more (I had up to 8 once) unconfirmed/abandoned carts under their ORDERS tab. These are months past and they never see these carts on the front end, so they keep accumulating if they never come back to it.
It's bothersome (and somewhat messy/disorganized) on the back end. Even if it was possible to select only those orders (or any orders) and batch delete, it would clean it up significantly. Otherwise, you have to do it one at a time and the screen never returns back to that customer, it ends up at ORDERS for your entire customer base (and when there are several unconfirmed orders per customer, it's a tedious task).

Brooks Hitzfield: Hey Brooks. For us, the big issue is that we change our menu every week. If something is left in there from the week before, and they submit the order, then they can "sneak" in an order for the thing I don't have anymore, and I have to reach out and let them know it's unavailable and apologize. So now I manually delete every unconfirmed order after the previous week's business cycle and before the new weekly ordering window opens.

Brooks Hitzfield: Based upon the input from the others, I feel this is a fairly critical issue and concern from both a business and customers perspective.
Ideally customers will only have one cart when they are signed in using their account. This helps customers return to make a purchase after abandonment or maybe getting distracted or busy, without them searching all over or abandoning again because the cart is empty.
The only duplicates should be "guest" or those not signed in.
(IE they only have a current cart when logged in. Items added before signing in can be merged to their current cart and they can review before they complete the order. For abandoned guest carts they should probably be pruned every 60-90 days by default. An option to adjust that would be beneficial as every business is a little different.)
The customer's cart would be updated on every refresh either by them or by the system as per below, and that would remove duplicate abandonment and marketing can be tweaked only for current abandonment.
The other side here, is that the system needs to automatically refresh the cart on page load, and also during the order completion step, re-verify all pricing, availability, and any promos/codes/sales.
If anything has changed by the time they click submit order, it can either take them back to the cart or remain on the order checkout page, but in either case it should prompt them with a little bubble popup informing them of the changes to their cart and to confirm the they understand/to continue.
This way out of stocks, seasonal, etc items aren't intentionally or accidentally ordered and price changes take full effect before the completion of the order, with a customer seeing the updates and confirming it.

I agree it looks weird, messy when you open a persons account to see multiple unconfirmed and new carts created in their order history. It would be neat if GC could automatically delete empty carts or unconfirmed orders once a new cart has been started on the person's account.
